The Green Party US is the largest national political party to the left of the corporate duopoly. Yet in spite of this, the Green Party struggles to realize its full potential to build the political power needed to effectuate its distinctive solutions to the serious problems of climate, war, poverty, inequality, democracy, civil rights and liberties, and more.

Every political party should have a discussion medium where its members can share, consider, and deliberate their various perspectives. New Green Horizons (NGH) hopes to provide that forum. As a free webzine, NGH will be easily accessible for sharing commentary on current events, policy positions, organizing strategies, theory, and history. We’ll also welcome news reporting on Green Party activism, both in the U.S. and internationally.

Our name carries on the tradition of the print magazine, Green Horizon, which had a two-decade legacy of publishing articles by and about Greens. But the magazine has terminated production due to escalating printing and mailing costs. Meanwhile, the Green Socialist Organizing Project (GSOP) has been discussing the need for a venue where grassroots Greens and all currents of the Green Party could share perspectives and talk things through. So we joined forces. Those from the magazine are bringing their editorial and publishing experience; GSOP is donating the Internet resources for the webzine website. Beyond that core group we’ve reached out to assure broad inclusion of Green perspectives. The result is that the combined and extended staff—the Editorial and Advisory Boards of New Green Horizons—represent a variety of viewpoints and will be editorially independent.

We will be posting articles as they come in as long as they are reasonably well-written and constructive in tone. They can range from short commentaries to long-form essays. We’ll welcome discussion in comments posted after articles (we intend to moderate the comments in order to keep discussions civil and constructive). We’ll be soliciting articles on timely topics as well as accepting unsolicited material of various kinds.

New Green Horizons is open to all Greens. Please join with us by reading, writing for, sharing, and promoting this webzine. Author guidelines for submissions are available on the website. We also encourage contributions in other ways, including soliciting articles, editing, graphics, and social media promotion.

New Green Horizons is a collective project and its success will depend on your participation.

For our initial launch week, we will be posting articles daily, with topics ranging from lesser evilism (today) to campaign and issue reports to historical articles that still bear relevance today. Be sure to follow us on social media, sign up for our mailing list, and check out our latest articles every week from authors across the spectrum of Green thought. You can even submit an article and be part of the discussion here at New Green Horizons!
